doValue supports a Tourist Port near Rome in the battle against plastic in the sea
doValue is sensitive to issues such as environmental sustainability and takes concrete actions to proactively address the challenge of pollution and ensure that future generations have a cleaner, more liveable and more sustainable planet.
doValue from 2019 supports PlasticLess®, the Lifegate project created to protect the health of the sea and contribute to the reduction of marine pollution through the collection of plastic waste in the waters of ports and nautical clubs.
Thanks to the support of doValue, the innovative was positioned in the port of Rome, a “plastic eater” that captures about 1.5 kilograms of debris from the surface of the water per day, for a maximum of half a tonne of waste per year including microplastics up to 2 mm in diameter and microfibres of up to 0.3 mm. The doValue-sponsored Seabin, initially installed in Ostia, was transferred to the port of Marina di Capo d’Anzio at the end of 2020.
In 2022, thanks to this significant partnership, the device has collected over 1,903 kilos of floating waste, or the equivalent in weight of 126,900 0.5L plastic bottles, thus helping reduce marine pollution in the Lazio coastline.
In 2021 has been collected 1,350 kilograms of floating waste; in 2020 and 2019 had been captured instead more than 260kg of plastic waste
The seas of the world are increasingly submerged by plastic and the Mediterranean is one of the most affected areas: for UNEP (United Nations Environment Programme), on its seabed would be up to 100,000 fragments of various sizes of plastic per square kilometre. So many, too many reasons that every day tons of plastic end up in the sea, such as bad waste management, production activities, beach tourism, port activities and careless behavior of still too many people.
The annual participation in the PlasticLess project has represented an important step in the sustainability process it has been undertaking for years to reduce the amount of plastic in the sea and promote a concrete commitment to the territory and the community.
